It is the the part of northern Uttar pradesh and situated 70 km east of religious, holy city Varanasi. From gurgaon it is 845 km east. It was founded by Sayyeid Masood Gazi, during Tughlaq dynasty. Its ancient name was Ghadhipur which was changed in to 'Ghazipur' in the honour of Ghazi Malik, a muslim ruler. It is situated on the Utter Pradesh and Bihar Boarder. There is the memorial of cornawallis, a British army officer. I think you have heared the name of Company Quarter Master Havildar Abdul Hamid was a soldier in the 4 Grenadiers, indian Army. He was born at dhampur village of GHAZIPUR. He distroyed three tank of Pakistan, during 1965 Indo-Pak war and posthumous recipient of the Republic of india's highest millitary decoration the PARAM VIR CHAKRA. Most Important thing that I want to tell is- Ghazipur has legal opium production factory owned by central government. India produces about half of the opium utilized by world's phermaceutical company. In India there are two government factories process opium. One is in Ghazipur U.P. and second one is in Neemuch M.P.. It is established by East India Company in 1820. Spread across 52 acres on the bank of holy Ganga with 900 staff. It is the world's largest opium production factory and export opium to countries like USA, Japan, France and Shri lanka. Total turnover of the factory comes around Rs 200 crore and makes the profit of 15 crore per year. A celebrated novelist Amitav Ghosh wrote a book Sea of poppies on the opium production factory situated in Ghazipur U.P. |
