Government run petroleum firm ONGC has lost a bid to acquire a key oilfield located in Algeria. The hotly contested oilfield went to Chinese and Thai group CNOOC and PTTEP.
ONGC teaming with Turkish Petroleum Corp and UAE’s Dana Gas lost to a consortium of China and Thailand’s petroleum companies, the bid was held for Hassi Bir Rekaiz oil field for oil exploration and refining. Spain and Russia too took part in the bidding but were outclassed in the bidding round.
According to reports Algeria awarded three permits in the bidding round held for 10 exploration areas thatclosed on December 22. Recently ONGC Videsh had lost another bid held for Halfaya oilfield in war torn Iraq, it went to CNPC.
