Tri-series Final, Sri Lanka Ousted India
14-01-2010  |  Rajiv Azad

In a one sided match Lankan’s lions roared vigorously and trounced Indian tigers in the finale of the Triangular ODI series, played in Bangladesh yesterday.

Yesterday was one bad day for men in Blue and nothing went in their favour, right from the word go they lost the plot and never looked like champion side. Barring few good performances they played under pressure, trying to bounce back in the game but till the end it didn’t happen and team India lost the first major tournament of the New Year 2010 with four wickets.

When it mattered most the much hyped towering Indian batting line up crashed badly and folded on a paltry 245 for all out, what is pathetic is that they failed to play their full quota of overs and bundled out in 48.2 overs. Batting first after losing the toss, men in blue began their batting on a miserable note, they lost wickets in regular succession and at one stage were 16 for three, losing inform Gambhir and Virat Kohli, while southpaw Yuvraj too failed to live up to his reputation.
When it looked, Indian inning would not last long, young all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina played superbly, helping India in scoring a respectable total of 245. Suresh Raina scored a superb hundred while Jadeja went on to score useful 38 runs. Scintillating Sehwag contributed with brisk 42 runs. For the Lankans Nuwan took 4 for 48 while Welegedara took 3 for 53 and set the stage for Lanka’s victory.

Chasing a modest total of 246, Lankans played sensible cricket and were in full command throughout the game. For the Lankans former captain Mahela Jayewardene played a key role, he remained not out scoring useful 71 runs, while Dilshan and Sangakara scored 49 and 55 respectively.
